Movie Trailer & Review : Kahaani

Before we begin referring to ‘Kahaani’, let me reveal all of you that from my child decades I use to demand for Suspense Thrillers. Movies like Pride Intruder, Gumnaam, Teesri Manzil, Khamosh, Khel Khel Mein, Khiladi, Khoj, Desh Drohi, Bees Saal Baad, Dhund, Dhuan,Who Primary Nahin, Kaun Kaisey and many more were among my any moment film check out record. The miracle of these films was that the more you know about the film, more immersed you are in the film and if the finish changes out completely reverse of your presumptions then it was complete ‘Paisa Vasool’ time. Unfortunately in last few decades the record ceased increasing and Suspense Thrillers category seemed to reduce out. Abbas Mustaan and few beginners did create few films according to this category, but they seem to be more of pressured excitement. So Movie director Sujoy Jeeze delivers us a Suspense Thriller ‘Kahaani’ with the most discussed and top entertainer Vidya Balan. We will see out if this film warrants to be a part of the record of all-time video games or might be just vulnerable replicated of Abbas Mustaan kind films or end up being even more intense than director’s toughest perform – House Shipping. We will see out.

“Kahaani” is story of Vidya Bagchi {Vidya Balan}, a pregnant lady who comes from London to Kolkata in search of her husband Arnab Bagchi {Indraneil Sengupta}. She lodges a missing person complaint in local police station. Her case is under the custody of Satyoki Sinha / Rana {Parambrata Chattopadhyay}, who does not get any clue over Arnab Bagchi. Vidya’s all evidence has only one answer – There is no one of such name. But then comes a turning point leading to a roller coaster ride full of twist and turns.

Story is Superb and has loads of twist and turns. Screenplay is one of the heroes in this film. The writing is so powerful and all the scenes are important and go very well with the film. As the intermission comes, one does feel that till now it was superb and let’s hope that the second half does not spoil the fun. It does not as Second half is outstanding leading to a fantastic finale. There are many fantastic scenes like Vidya at the Police Station, The Agnes Twist, Vidya meeting Nawazuddin for first time, Intermission point, The whole Hacking part and many many more. On the flip side frankly speaking I did not find any, but if one has to be bit cynical then might say that the negative people could have been sharper. Camera work is of top notch. The way Cinematographer Setu has shot this film is amazing. He has used the Kolkata city as one of the key character of the film. From Metro to tram to Cycle Rickshaw to Durga Puja, he made them all look alive on the screen. Editing was just perfect.

Music by Vishal Shekhar is superb. Barring ‘Ekla Chalo Re’ by Amitabh Bachchan none of other songs are used in the film. But the way ‘Ekla Chalo Re’ comes in the film, it gives you goose bumps. But Background music of this film is outstanding. A special mention for using R.D.Burman’s songs as part of background music, which is fantastic.

Sujoy Ghosh made his first film ‘Jhankaar Beats’ without learning D of direction. He directed the whole film by learning the film making through books. But sadly after this film he gave a miserable film ‘Home Delivery’. His ‘Aladin’ was saved by fine performances by Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt, but as a director it was another blow for him. But out one cannot believe that this film is directed by Sujoy Ghosh. He re discovers the passion and talent inside him and gives us one of his finest work. The way he has narrated the film is commendable. His minor detailing and finesse wins him those extra brownie points which works in favor of the film.

Vidya Balan is the main Hero of the film and as again and again proved that her films can work without any hero too. No One Killed Jessica, The Dirty Picture and Now Kahaani are perfect example. She joins the elite group of Shabhana Azmi, Tabu and if she continues in this manner might excel them too. You need guts to accept such role. No other heroine could accept such role and even give half of what she has performed. Parambrata Chattopadhyay as the cop is superb and total down to earth. Nawazuddin, Kharaj Mukherjee and Saswata Chattopadhyay gives perfect support to the film. Few more characters like Bob, The Guest House manager Das, The Guest house Kid, Etc did a remarkable job. Indraneil Sengupta, Dharshan Jariwala and Dhritiman Chatterjee does their part very well.

So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ iss film mein kitna hai Dum ?

Dum??? This film has all the Dum you want. It has everything in it – Fine Performances, Superb Cinematography, Excellent Direction, Crisp Writing and most important total gripping. It won’t give you a single second to think and keep you glued to the silver screen. After watching this film one can answer when asked – Which are your all time best Indian Suspense Thrillers ? And the answer shall be Jewel Thief, Gumnaam, Teesri Manzil, Khamosh, Kahaani, etc.
